Setting the Trenches: Offensive Line
From the FanPosts. Enjoyed this. -Joel
Many would agree that in order to succeed in the game of football, a team must dominate the line of scrimmage. Even though some say the league has evolved, this remains constant. It's essential to protect the QB and provide clean running lanes for your RB's.
Most would also agree that the biggest need for the Chiefs this offseason is on the offensive line. I firmly believe KC can set the trenches for years to come by making wise decisions with their first two draft choices in 2012.
Drafting the Beef
Scott Pioli has repeatedly indicated he wants to build this team through the draft. We haven't seen any blockbuster free agent deals in Pioli's time with the Chiefs, so a reasonable person would assume that will not change now.
The first draft pick for the Chiefs has got to be obvious. Maybe even the second. More info after the jump.

The Three Most WTF Moments of the Chiefs Season
As if you couldn't tell, I love lists. They make everything better.
Anyway this is the top 3 WTF Moments of the Chiefs Season. These are in no particular order.
Need some help, KC trip
Ok I read this site everyday, post sometimes.
2012 Free Agency & Draft Predictions
This is my first post on AP, and I want to say that I have read so many opinions on here about what the Chiefs should do. I am not going to go around bashing anyone, because I think that is classless.
On to more important matters concerning the 2012 Kansas City Chiefs.
Of course, it will be difficult trying to predict what the Chiefs will do with the Free-Agency, Draft, and what-not. However, it is one of the most fun offseason activities for the fan. Therefore, my first post of Free-Agency and Draft Predictions ever. Enjoy!
FREE AGENCY:
In-house: Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Carr, Jovan Belcher, Le'Ron McClain, Jackie Battle, Wallace Gilberry, Amon Gordon, Travis Daniels, Jon McGraw, Try to keep Kyle Orton
Let Go: Jake O'Connell (Don't agree with his signing), Jerheme Urban, Anthony Becht, Leonard Pope, Casey Wiegmann (retire), Kelly Gregg (retire), Sabby Piscitelli, Tyler Palko, Shaun Draughn
Top 4 UFA Targets:
1. Carl Nicks, G, New Orleans Saints
Look for Scott Pioli to aggressively pursue improving the offensive line, starting with the interior. Lilja is undersized and Nicks is a beast and a mauler. He's a perfect fit for a long future with the Chiefs.
2. Sione Pouha, NT, New York Jets
I am not the biggest fan of Pouha, but there is likely no long term fix at our NT position in the draft or on our current roster. Pouha gives the Chiefs a solid starter for the right money. I am a firm believer that stopping the run starts at the D-Line, but ends with the LBs. Look for Pioli to draft or sign an ILB in Free Agency to compete or start over Jovan Belcher.
3. Ben Grubbs, G, Baltimore Ravens
If the Chiefs cannot land Carl Nicks, Ben Grubbs is the next best option. He will cost less than Nicks, and offer better play than either of our current guards. If Pioli could score both Nicks and Grubbs, look for the Chiefs offensive line to quickly ascend to an elite level.
4. D'Qwell Jackson, ILB, Cleveland Browns
Jackson had a good year coming off of an injury. He won't need a ton of money to be satisfied, and barring injury, he has a ton of upside that would be great for competition amongst the Chiefs LBs.
5. Paul Soliai, NT, Miami Dolphins
Soliai would be cheaper than Pouha. However, Soliai isn't as dominant as Pouha. His age is an advantage, and if the Chiefs can't land Pouha, expect them to take a look at Soliai.
DRAFT:
11/12. Trade down with Chicago (19 and 50). Chicago takes David DeCastro, G, Stanford.
With the Free Agent acquisition of Nicks and/or Grubbs, David DeCastro's talents are not needed in KC. Pioli pulls off his usual stunt and trades down, stockpiling picks in the 2nd round.
19. Donta' Hightower, ILB, Alabama
With the first selection by the Chiefs, they select a heady, beast of an ILB, who will pair well with DJ. In DJ you have a tackling machine. In Hightower you have a thumper who can come in and help stop the run.
44. Zebrie Sanders, OT, Florida State
In the 2nd round, the Chiefs pick up a talented offensive tackle to replace the horrific Barry Richardson. This is also a friendly move for Chiefs C/G Rodney Hudson as the two of them were teammates in college.
50. Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Washington
Adding depth at the DT/NT position is a must for the Chiefs. With Kelly Gregg most likely retiring, and with the addition of Sione Pouha, Ta'amu can provide solid depth and learn the reigns from a legit veteran like Pouha.
75. Marvin McNutt, WR, Iowa
McNutt is the next Josh Cribbs, except probably a more consistent receiver. McNutt looks like a prime candidate to run all of Daboll's wildcat schemes, and looks like solid WR depth and will provide Jonathan Baldwin with some legitimate competition, making them both better.
107. Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State
Adcock is one of the most underrated Tackles in this year's draft. The kid is a stud, and the Chiefs would be lucky to land him at such a bargain. He could provide depth at either Tackle position, and potentially compete for starting time in the future.
118. Trade with Cleveland, #171 and 2013 6th Rd. Isaiah Pead, RB, Cincinnati
Isaiah Pead looked very impressive in the Senior Bowl, and will probably be overlooked for a long while. The Chiefs seem to always take a RB in the draft, and this year we actually need one. Pead can be a very good 3rd down back, backing up Jamaal Charles. Obviously, this would bring in competition for Dexter McCluster, who hasn't quite lived up to his 2nd round hype.
138. Case Keenum, QB, Houston
Scott Pioli's token late-round QB comes at pick #138. Still trying to discover the next Tom Brady, Pioli drafts Keenum. I like the pick. Keenum's a good quarterback, and will challenge Ricky Stanzi for the backup QB position.
201. Tysyn Hartman, S, Kansas State
Hartman is a local guy with a strong work ethic and a nose for the football. Reminds me a lot of a younger Jon McGraw, and not just because they both came out of KSU.
206. Chris Galippo, ILB, USC
In all honesty, I don't know a whole lot about this guy. I've merely heard the name "Galippo" here or there. I just know that USC linebackers tend to be pretty good. So, Galippo could be a steal.
And that, in my opinion, is how the Kansas City Chiefs should handle the 2012 Offseason. Let me know what you think!

Options At Quarterback for 2012
I'm with most of the people here on AP: the Chiefs need to upgrade the quarterback position. We've got some great young talent on this team. We just need the right quarterback for us. What options are there? Let's take a look.
*Matt Cassel: He joined the Chiefs in 2009 and so far he's been very inconsistent. He's got some great leadership qualities but he holds on to the ball too long and his arm strength doesn't scare anyone. He's had some good games here: he's also had plenty of bad games. But after three seasons I haven't seen much progress from him and I think it's time to move on.
*Kyle Orton: He stepped in and performed very well during the last three games. Many of us are clamoring for him to be the starter next year. I'd like to see him do that. However, he didn't play all that well at the beginning of 2011 and he ended up being waived by Denver. He's never been spectacular but he's a good stop-gap player and could help give the offense life next season.
*Ricky Stanzi: My personal man-crush. I liked seeing what he could do in the 2011 preseason. He didn't get any true playing time last year (much to my dismay). I was ready for the Chiefs to start him after the loss to Pittsburgh. He's probably still pretty raw but I'd like to see what he could do in 2012. The team might be favored to win the division next year and if Stanzi sucks, then it might be a wasted opportunity to take control of the West.
*Peyton Manning: A lot of people on here would love to see Mr. Big Forehead playing for the Chiefs in 2012. That would be quite a sight to see. But he will be an expensive target for us and his neck is still a cause for concern. Out of all the options, he's the biggest risk/reward player out there.
*Matt Moore: He's still under contract with the Dolphins next year but new HC Joe Philbin may want to bring in his own guy and Moore could be released. If he is waived, then I believe the Chiefs will take a long hard look at him. He's not a dazzler but he's good enough to win some games. Daboll was calling plays for him last year in Miami and they seemed to mesh well. It might be worth a look.
Now the question remains....
Nation Wide Mock Draft
Hello Chiefs Fans,
I had an idea for a mock draft in which your sports nation site acts as your team. Over the next few months I plan to visit each team's site and allow for each reader to help pick your team's draft pick. Please answer the poll to select your team's draft pick.
Flowers vs Carr: 1 vs 2??
Okay. After much debate on this issue, and with Carr's re-signing being one of the most talked about topics, I decided to clear up some things. Seems we have a back and forth ballgame on who's better, Carr or Flowers. I personally think Flowers is, but I also can say that Carr is giving him a run for his money. My irritation to this matter is when people look at a site like, lets say Pro Football Focus, and see Carr ranked in top 10 on some categories. Since Flowers name isn't nowhere around, they assume Carr must be better. I mean he is taller! Plus, with us having CBs that maintain their respective side of the field, this ranking must be telling? WRONG! I'll explain without trying to be too lazy to actually back up what I backed up!?!?

My Chiefs Offseason based off of scenarios
Throughout any offseason for any team there are many things that can happen from one day to the next. The biggest talk of this offseason for every team lacking a true "Franchise QB" is of course Peyton Manning. The Manning factor is just one scenario that plays into my offseason. I will also do a non Manning scenario for those who say they want to see what Cassel can do with one more year. Manning or no Manning all I care about is the Chiefs meeting there Goals as a team and giving me, an avid Chiefs fan, something to look forward to every Sunday afternoon other than of course spending time with my beautiful wife. So here goes my Mock offseason.....

I guess I did get knocked off, and I understand why
and I don't even understand the difference between a shot and a post and you'd think after all these years I would have gotten it but I haven't so you're all gonna have to forgive me for that.
I needed some help, and I knew that you would rush to my aid, and you did. I thank all of you for that.
I'm a pretty old guy, and I got introduced to the internet when you had to dial a phone number to even get connected. And I found this bunch of people on AOL who loved talking about the Chiefs. That was when we had DT, and Neil, and Deron was out there in the secondary and Albert was roaming around right next to him. We had a great line and we had Priest and Marcus and the Nigerian Nightmare running the ball. Hell, I'm so old that I firmly believe that MIke Garrett was the best Chiefs running back ever. Tip of the hat here to the great Joe Delaney. I remember Curtis McClinton. I remember Podolak. God, I'm old. And I remember Otis. And Lenny arming it out to him at the end of almost every game. When we needed to win, it was Lenny and Otis. And 65 Toss Power Trap. Man, I loved Hank Stram. Move over, Lombardi. Best. Coach. Ever.
You guys helped me a lot today. And you remind me of that great bunch of Chiefs fans I found way back in the early '90's.
There's just something about Chiefs fans. Can't explain it. It's just a fact. You guys are great.
Best. Fans. Ever.
Ron

Building the Perfect Defensive Beast
....and missing a few pieces. The Chiefs have been busy in the last week adding an Offensive Coordinator and also adding a couple of players at Strong Safety and Tight End. In reviewing the Chiefs website, we have not zero Centers anymore but two. Depending on how you look at it we have either three Offensive Tackles or three Tight Ends (or One of each in all reality). Preparing for Training camp, I would assume we need another pair of QB's on the roster, more offensive lineman, and another Tight End or WR or both. Scott Pioli should be busy re-signing some more of our players from last year and come March 13th some others in Free Agency.
What do we truly need?
We have 5 Inside Linebackers on the roster and we have 4 Outside Linebackers too (not counting that mysterious 257 lb Defensive End we have also). So do we need another body or clearly just ONE impact body?
I have been a big detractor of the Nose Tackle Position. We don't play it that often, we have done well enough with over the Hill guys and undersized guys..... Maybe I am wrong and if we had a dominating guy in there I would see the impact difference a Nose Tackle can make. I doubt that guy is going to be available to draft in 2012. We have one guy designated NT on the Chiefs roster and he did not play many snaps last season. Again a body or ONE impact body?
Defensive End is a different animal. We need lots of these beasts to make our Defense dominant and active. We have two and then a list of project guys. More 6'5 300+ lb Man-Beasts. This is a need (every year IMO).
The Chiefs secondary is an awesome thing. Re-Sign Brandon Carr. Another body is always welcome every year.
My list of needs would be Defensively:
- Brandon Carr
- Free agent Nose Tackle
- As many Man-Beasts as we can find in Free agency or the Draft
- Later round drafted Defensive Backs
