With Knile Davis signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers I thought it was time to look back at what’s come of the Chiefs 2017 free agents. They had seven of them entering the start of free agency on March 9 and we now have news on four of them with three others still out there.
The Chiefs free agents didn’t go out there and sign any big money contracts so it looks like they’ll be out on compensatory picks or if they are eligible they won’t be getting four of them like they did this year.
S Eric Berry (re-signed): Remember when the Chiefs were gonna lose Eric Berry?
OL Mike Person (re-signed): He can play multiple spots on the line ... even if he didn’t actually play.
DL Dontari Poe (Falcons): Just a one-year deal in free agency, which was surprising. Poe will be doing this again next year.
RB Knile Davis (Steelers): One year deal with the Steelers. Good for him. He could carve out a role there as a returner and depth in the backfield.
DL Kendall Reyes: I kinda liked him last year in limited snaps. It wouldn’t surprise me if they brought him back.
DL Jarvis Jenkins: Same as Reyes. I could see him back at some point after the draft.
LB Josh Mauga: I’d be curious in a reunion - if the Chiefs didn’t find any upgrades. He knows the defense and has been around before so if he’s healthy you would know what his floor was. Ideally, though, the Chiefs upgrade here and prepare for a new wave of inside linebackers.
The Chiefs also re-signed S Daniel Sorensen, who was a restricted free agent, and G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who still had a year left on his deal. They cut RB Jamaal Charles and also signed S Marqueston Huff.
