The Kansas City Chiefs will be making a 10-man practice squad on Sunday afternoon. There are a bunch of practice squad rules about eligibility and some are tough to figure out but the practice squad is generally for younger players.
One big question the Chiefs likely have is whether Kevin Hogan will be claimed off the waiver wire. The Chiefs cut him, likely hoping he passes through waivers so they can add him to the practice squad. I’ll guess that Hogan is safe and won’t be claimed. A team claiming off the wire would have to join the 53-man roster and I’m not sure he’s shown enough to merit a spot on the active roster.
The Chiefs practice squad will probably be made up of the players that were just cut. That’s usually how it works. Some of the promising guys like LB Terrance Smith need some more development and so the practice squad is a good spot for them.
Here’s a list of the Chiefs roster cuts. Not all are eligible (I don’t think). Your practice squad is probably right here.
