Chiefs second round pick DL Chris Jones went to Mississippi State and Dolphins 13th overall pick OT Laremy Tunsil went to Ole Miss, which meant they played each other every year.
I went through Jones' transcript from his media session at the Combine and noticed that Jones named Tunsil as the player who gave him the most trouble in college.
"I was playing defensive end and he gave me a tough battle," Jones said. "He’s a good offensive lineman, probably one of the best offensive linemen here. He’s pretty good. . . They say give credit where credit is due.”
If only we knew back then what would happen to Tunsil...
While we're here, you may have noticed Jones in his first interview after being drafted. He is a happy guy. He was smiling the whole time (who wouldn't be?) and just seemed really ... bubbly.
Going through Jones' Combine transcript, he noted the difference between a happy personality and the attitude needed for a defensive lineman in the NFL.
"I have a flamboyant personality," Jones said. "I’m a cheerful guy. On the field, I know how to switch it on and switch it off. Off the field, I can be happy; I can be exciting.”
When asked which players he models his game after, Jones mentioned a couple of former Andy Reid players in Trent Cole and Fletcher Cox as well as the guy who Eric Fisher nearly retired, JJ Watt.
"I watch Trent Cole or Fletcher Cox and J.J. Watt, Ndamukong Suh, all those types of guys. I feel I model my game after those guys. Those guys later in life are going to be Hall of Famers. J.J. Watt has won three defensive MVPs. Fletcher Cox, a dominant defensive lineman for the Eagles. Ndamukong Suh, a dominant defensive lineman in the NFL. All those guys have something in common. They’re going to be Hall of Famers. I try to model my game after them.”
The Chiefs are hoping one day a fresh defensive lineman comes in and says he wants to model his game after Chris Jones.
