More fun news for Doug Pederson in Philly. It's been reported that the Eagles took trade calls on RB Darren Sproles during the draft. That report has led to Sproles now staying away from the Eagles OTAs.
The Chiefs aren't going to trade for Sproles. He is a 33-year old back with a $4.5 million cap hit and the Chiefs are running back rich right now.
This does remind me of that time the Chiefs were rumored to be interested in Sproles. You'll have to go all the way back to 2010 -- it's amazing that six years later, there's still a trade market for a 33-year old Sproles - when the Chargers were set to let Sproles hit free agency.
Except ... the Chargers didn't let him hit free agency. They used the franchise tag on him at the last minute. However, in the days leading up to free agency, when we thought he would actually hit free agency, it was rumored the Chiefs were interested.
A league source told National Football Post that the Kansas City Chiefs are rumored to be interested in Sproles' versatile ability and return skills. Sproles, who played collegiately at Kansas State, could work in tandem there with Jamaal Charles.
Jamaal would go on to have a great season with Thomas Jones as his sidekick. Remember that duo? They were excellent on the Chiefs 2010 playoff team. Jamaal and Sproles though? Now that would have been an incredible combination.
The next year, Sproles would go to the Saints where he spent three years and then went to the Eagles where he is now. For now.
