Get ready for another cold one. The weather is calling for temperatures in the teens this weekend. The Chiefs play the Titans on Sunday when they’re calling for a high of 14 and a low of six degrees. Football weather.
“It will probably be the coldest game I've ever played,’’ Mariota said on Wednesday via the Titans website. “But I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a fun atmosphere and can't wait to do it. I’ll be ready.”
We flagged the weather as a potential issue for Derek Carr last week because he had smaller-than-normal hands (for quarterbacks). Hand size is important in these cold weather games when it feels like you’re throwing a bowling ball.
How does Marcus Mariota’s hand size compare? 9 3/8”, which is about average for quarterbacks. That’s about the same as Alex Smith.
The difference is that Alex Smith is used to playing in some of these games. Mariota when talking about the cold weather referenced a game where the kickoff temperate was 40 degrees. That feels like Hawaii weather compared to what he’s going to see on Sunday.
This is a real advantage for the Chiefs, who rely on their defense to keep the scoring down (now watch them each put up 40 on Sunday).
