Jamaal Charles was active this week despite swelling in his knee on Friday that made him questionable for the game. However, he had just one carry in the game and otherwise didn’t play.
So what was the plan with him coming in? I asked Andy Reid that after the game.
“Yeah, you know, things were going okay, so I kind of let it ride there,” Reid said. “His knee puffed up just a little bit this week. I’m trying to be as careful as we can with him on it, and with him in my ear wanting to play. We were doing okay there on the run game. Like I said at one point, Ware was cranking it out for seven yards a carry. So, I thought we were moving it alright.”
He’s not wrong but it’s still a curious decision. I wonder if Ware or Charcandrick West had been hurt if Jamaal would have played. This is the second time where Jamaal was active and hardly played. The other was his first game back in Pittsburgh where he carried it just two times.
The Chiefs have a good thing going with Spencer Ware and don’t want to mess with it. He had yet another big game on Sunday with 131 total yards. Jamaal almost feels like a luxury at this point. I never thought I’d say that but here we are.
