A Brief Review: Episode 2

The State Of The Backfield

Welcome to the 2nd installment of A Brief Review. If you haven't read the 1st installment, you should check it out here.

This time we will be looking at the main running-backs and fullbacks on the 2015 Chiefs roster.

Running Backs

Jamaal Charles

Charles is one of the few elite every-down backs in the league. He has blazing speed, crazy moves, incredible toughness, and best of all, x-ray vision. Chief's legend and Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson praised Charles by saying that "he sees things that other running backs don't."

While Charles isn't as young as he used to be, I believe that he still has a few elite years left in him, and that the best is yet to come.

As long as we have Charles, we'll always have a chance.

Knile Davis

While Chief's Kingdom remains divided on the the potential of Knile Davis, some hate him, some love him. I have seen enough from him to believe that he has the potential to be our next franchise every-down back when Charles retires in a few years.

He's about as fast as Charles, and he has Charles's nose for the endzone.

Davis has 13 total touchdowns (10 rush, 1 receiving, 2 return) over his first 2 seasons in the NFL (not including his two touchdowns in the playoffs), even with Charles taking all the "touches".

Knile also brings a lot of power to the run game, as he had a beast bench press, and just look at those muscles

If Davis can continue to develop his vision and decision making, he could potentially play at as high a level as his mentor Jamaal Charles.

Fullback

Anthony Sherman

The "Sausage" is one of the best blocking fullbacks in the league, and has been great edition to the team since the beginning of the Andy Reid era.

While he doesn't light up the scoreboard, and most of what he does goes largely unnoticed, the Sausage has been a large part of our successful running game. (and occasionally the passing game)

Special Teams/Backup Running Backs

Charcandrick West

We know very little about West. While I have heard some good things about his progress in OTA's, I'll have to wait till I see him in the preseason before I pass judgement.

I am excited to see him play this preseason, and I hope he shows potential.

Summary

All in all, I believe we have one of the best runningback duo's in the NFL, as Davis is an excellent security blanket in case Charles gets injured, but I'd like to see some more depth.
