10 Things We Learned From Offseason Workouts from The Mothership
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and QB Alex Smith have done as much as they have possibly could to get in sync, and they have agreed that they are.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was brought in from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason to be the Chiefs' new No. 1 receiving target on offense.
What that means is that developing chemistry between him and Smith will be the key to early and consistent success when the regular season begins.
The good news for Chiefs fans is that both seem to believe they are well on their way to building that essential quarterback-wide receiver harmony.
Chiefs Rookies Explore Hall of Honor and Arrowhead Art Collection with Operation Breakthrough from The Mothership
Seeing the various team artifacts and history was something that made an immediate impact to offensive lineman Mitch Morse, who was taking his first trip to the Hall of Honor.
"It's kind of nice to take a step back and really appreciate all that's happened so far," Morse said of taking in the Hall. "This was paved by the blood and sweat of guys before us."
After the Hall of Honor tour, the students and players had more of a chance to interact on a different type of tour—one of the Arrowhead Art Collection.
Lee Duckett, Operation Breakthrough's associate director of marketing and events, loved that the children in attendance were able to meet and greet with some of the newest faces of the Chiefs.
Chiefs sign rookie WR Jeret Smith from Chiefs Digest
Smith, a native of Abilene, Texas, finished his college career as McMurray's leader in yards receiving (2,729 yards) on 181 receptions, which ranked second in school history.
The Chiefs now have 12 wide receivers on the offseason roster ahead of training camp in late July.
Marcus Peters, Mitch Morse, Chris Conley could start for Kansas City Chiefs from ESPN
In Sean Smith, Phillip Gaines, Jamell Fleming and Marcus Cooper, the Chiefs have four players who started at least one game for them at corner last season. There could still be ample opportunity for Peters to earn significant playing time or a starting spot. Smith faces a possible NFL suspension for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy after pleading guilty to a DUI in Kansas City. If Smith is out for the first couple of games, his absence leaves a huge gap that Peters could fill.
Where should Justin Houston be on list of highest-paid players? from ESPN
The multiyear contract is being held up by the debate on exactly how high Houston should be on that list of $10-million-plus defenders. And make no mistake, Houston wants to be high on that list.
"I guarantee he's looking for $16 million [annually] and $50 million in guaranteed money," said ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, a former NFL player and a personnel director for two NFL teams. "Without a doubt."
A contract like that would tie Houston for third on that highest-paid list with Buffalo's Mario Williams.
Former McMurry wide receiver Jeret Smith signed by Kansas City Chiefs from KTXS
"We are all so excited for Jeret to have this opportunity," McMurry head coach Lance Hinson said. ‘But it doesn't surprise any of us who know him. Jeret has worked hard for this opportunity and he was tireless in pursuit of this goal.
"But even more, he certainly set the tone as a leader and a man of his word. Jeret could have left McMurry for opportunities at larger schools, but he committed to finish his career with his friends and teammates here in Abilene. He is proof that the work will get you noticed, regardless of the size of your school."
