The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up mandatory minicamp today. Here are some observations on practice.
Sean Smith was not at Chiefs practice. We're talking to Andy Reid soon and I'll update you on what he says (Update: Reid said it was personal reasons.) In his place, Marcus Cooper was with the first team along with Marcus Peters on the outside and Phillip Gaines inside in the nickel.
Tyler Bray was at practice. He wasn't at the OTAs before this week's minicamp. He was with the quarterbacks during drills but not participating. He had a wrap on his left knee.
Sanders Commings was at practice. His cousin was one of the victims in the South Carolina shooting.
Albert Wilson was at practice but did not participate in drills. He's still coming back from a hamstring injury which has cost him multiple practices so far.
The Chiefs ended minicamp as they started OTAs on the offensive line: LT Eric Fisher, LG Ben Grubbs, C Eric Kush, RG Jeff Allen, RT Donald Stephenson. They continued to rotate at some spots, including right guard where Zach Fulton saw some time. It's tough to say whether this will be the offensive line that we see Week 1 because injuries can happen and training camp battles always seem to change something.
Rookie Mitch Morse lined up with the second team.
Alex Smith had a nice touchdown pass down the seam to Chris Conley. A little later, he zipped one into Jeremy Maclin between two defenders.
Dee Ford continues at outside linebacker with Justin Houston absent.
Fred Williams tipped a short pass in the air and Ramik Wilson picked it off.
Alex Smith had a great back shoulder pass to Jeremy Maclin for a touchdown. That play is tough to stop.
