What I Saw: Marcus Peters

With the 18th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select the one Washington Husky defender I didn't watch tape for. I watched all the tape I could on Danny Shelton and Shaq Thompson. Oh well.

One of the biggest issues some had with Peters was him getting kicked off the team. I call it media-hyped nonsense since not only did his old HC give him high praise, but the university also allowed him to participate in their pro-day. Also I doubt the Chiefs would give him a tour of Arrowhead Stadium if they didn't see something.

I really liked what I saw from Marcus Peters on film. He has good ball skills (something the Chiefs secondary sorely lacked), great in man and press, not afraid to get his nose in the run game (something I really missed from Brandon Flowers), has solid tackling and is great on the blitz. Biggest gripe is his habit of getting handsy on the receiver and his mouth. Doesn't really do well when asked to give the receiver a cushion and gets beat more often than not.

Overall I think the Chiefs got the number 2 CB in the draft behind Kevin Johnson and should help bolster the number 2 passing defense in the NFL and also be Sean Smith's replacement if the Chiefs can't work out a deal.
