The agent for defensive lineman Vance Walker says the Kansas City Chiefs are cutting him.
The Kansas City Chiefs have informed DL Vance Walker that he will be released.

Walker signed a 3-year, $13 million deal with the Chiefs last offseason as one of their biggest free agent signings. Except ... it didn't work out. Walker hardly played and never broke into a regular role on the defense. Even when Mike DeVito went down with an Achilles injury in Week 1, it was Jaye Howard who played into his way into that role as the season went on. I never quite understood it.
Walker was set to have a $3.75 million cap hit next season. His release will leave about $2 million in dead money so the Chiefs will save about $1.75 million against the cap.
There was a report that another Chiefs defensive end, Mike DeVito, could be asked to take a pay cut. I'm not sure how this affects that.
By my count, the Chiefs are about a million bucks over the cap. They'll need to be cap compliant by the time free agency starts on March 10. Of course, they'll need more cap space if they plan to sign anyone in free agency. Slowly but surely the Chiefs are chipping away at their salary cap.
