Can Kelcie McCray lift the hopes of the secondary?

Some tensions have mounted towards the Chiefs secondary so far throughout the latest two preseason games. Currently without Eric Berry, out with a heel injury and third safety option Sanders Cummings recovering from ankle surgery right now, are both still waiting to become the best options to use.

Not necessarily a lock for a sure roster spot, will make for an extensive competition at secondary, a much more revitalized battle. McCray bounced around for the Miami Dolphins in 2012 as a free agent from Arkansas State, later was picked up by Tampa Bay Bucs in late October. A natural strong safety for his size at 6-1, 205 pounds. Can eat up space with his feet while also having an exceptional eye for ball skills in coverage, and yes he can tackle. Creating turnovers, to change the mindset of a game has always been a strong point for the Chiefs secondary over the years, especially last season. His powering size is bigger than what Hussain Abdullah brings. McCray can match up with lanky receivers, at times tight ends. His ability to cover from the back end, especially in a division where they aren't afraid to throw it. Will help make McCray's transition smoother.

We all know going back against the field in one-on-one coverage has been one of the botherations thus far dealing with a young secondary core. If McCray can provide leadership and initialize a few hard hits when needed this could be a nice fit as a stop gap when Berry and Cummings return to normal shape. The secondary isn't near the most glaring indicator to work on *cough, cough offensive line. But any form of improvement will help revitalize the defense, that significantly trails the offensive output fully.
