Keeping close attention to all the injuries at training camp. One has to wonder, could the new players barginning assoc. contract be the reason for all the injuries? Let me explain.
Being a sports fan all my life. It is my belief that the biggest way to prevent injuries is to be in shape. The two other major factors is stretching and using proper technique. Do you remember training camps of the past? You might hear about an occasional injury but nothing like we are hearing about the Chiefs camp. You might assume other camps are having the same problems.
In the past camps were not limited as much with there time and the number of camps they could run. With the new players assoc. barginning agreement. You can only have so many practices and for so long. Is being on a time restriction hurting our players? Could it be that with the time restrictions on practices the coaches are cutting out one of the most important parts of practice which is getting in shape and stretching. Remember years ago when a sports station would report on a team. They would almost always show the team lined up doing exercises or stretching with a couple team leaders in front leading them. When was the last time you saw that on TV. Today you watch the players and if they are stretching. It is a couple players doing the exercise half assed, laughing and joking while executing them. If the team had more time that they could spend doing the team exercises and stretching correctly. It should reduce injuries.
One might asked what is the solution to this problem? It could be as simple as not counting the time spent on conditioning as practice time. This would benefit both the player by reducing injuries and the team with less restrictions on helping the player stay healthy.
