Is Charles leading by example?

A couple days ago most Chiefs fans were living in fear, that they might be losing the most explosive player on there team. Up until the reports came out stating that Charles wanted to renegotiate his contract. Everyone was ranting and raving about how much of a class act Charles was. After the reports surfaced I read a few comments stating that it would be better to let Charles go,then to pay a soon to be declining running back. Although it was hard to admit. There was some reasoning to those comments.

Today since the contract dispute has been settled. Fans are back to talking about how much of a class act Charles really is. It is likely if Charles pushed a little harder that he could of squeezed more money out of the Chiefs. He is considered by many including myself to be a top 3 RB and agreed to be paid what lesser running backs are getting paid. I believe Charles did this to allow the team to have some cap space allowing the signing of Smith or Houston, maybe both.

Charles signing a lesser contract then he deserves tells me how committed he is to the team. That he is willing to sacrifice some in order to benifit the team as a whole. As one of if not the biggest stars on the team. He is living by example. He is telling both Smith and Houston that this team is about more than just money. If you noticed Charles consumed about a third of the cap space to complete his renegotiations. This leaves two thirds left for Smith and Houston to work with. It would be nice if both agreed to split that down the middle and ink in there contracts.(I do believe the Chiefs could come up with a little more cap space when releasing players which would make the 1/3 each more accurate).

Do you think Charles is trying to lead by example? If so do you think either Smith or Houston will follow the lead?
