Jamaal Charles is certainly a unique back with a special skill set that works perfectly in Andy Reid's offense. Last season his 1,980 total yards from scrimmage was the 66th best total in the history of the NFL. He is currently 27 and will turn 28 this December, which is about the time that people start to question a running back's longevity, but based on JC's lighter workload early in his career and the maturation of the entire offense in Andy Reid's second year at the helm he should be good for at least a few more years.
A few statistical tidbits:
Of the 65 better seasons in yards from scrimmage, 16 of them were compiled by backs that were 28 or older. Three backs: Walter Payton, Tiki Barber, and ex-Chief Priest Holmes had top seasons in their thirties.
Brian Westbrook went for 2,104 yards from scrimmage in Reid's offense during the season he turned 28.
