Minicamp is over! Yay! It's only 70-whatever days until real football starts!
Minicamp is over! Crap! For the next 70-whatever days we only have soccer, baseball, and NASCAR!
We all have our own unique way of dealing with football withdrawal. Some of us re-watch highlight reals, some of us bury ourselves in our work, and some of us become alcoholic comment monsters. Who am I to judge? I, myself, like to draw up football plays. I do this for both sides of the ball, and have shared the fruits of my labor with you not once, not twice, but thrice (plus a couple discussions of offensive formations, but those don't really count). Joel, you can start paying me anytime now.
Anyways. I like drawing up all these formations and plays, and I absolutely love it when you guys join in. But I really wanted to know if any of these fronts and coverages would actually amount to anything. So I got on Amazon, and I bought NFL Head Coach '09. Apparently its playbook-building-and-customizing capabilities are pretty sweet, and I'll be able to use the alignments and formations I've been coming up with. I decided that I am going to create in-game the formations and plays that I've shown you guys in my posts. I will also run them through at least 50 plays of different types each, even if I have to do so one at a time. My Xbox might melt.
But I want to give back to you guys. If you want to leave a defensive formation in the comments and tell me what coverage you want to run out of it, I will run it through the simulator. Once I get all of these done, I will write another post with your formation's results.
I thought we might be able to have a little fun this summer. Thanks for reading!
