Cornerback troubles? We got it

With the sudden departure of 7 year veteran Cornerback Brandon Flowers gives the young driven secondaries an added handful to deal with next season. The immediate loss serves Marcus Cooper who enters his sophomore year in the league and Sean Smith, also evolving as a 2nd year man for Kansas City as vital players moving forward. Of course the main reason Dorsey let Flowers go was due to the slim margin of cap space needed to keep Flowers available.

The main concern that was left that became evident wasn't necessary the defense as a whole but the mere gap between the line-backing core back down to the corner man and safeties. Being pressed underneath the defending AFC Champion and HOF quarterback who has seen every defensive scheme a defense presents gives the Chiefs secondary core an enormously small margin of error to deal with. To go alongside that, with Cooper and Smith being the youngsters on the defensive side will have to get accustomed to the wide range of formations and passing ability shown by these quarterbacks. One-on-one coverage is also indicative, not only with Peyton Manning but was also proven for Phillip Rivers and Andrew Luck. Were numerous times gashed the Chiefs defense vertically.

If Cooper and Smith want to make themselves known as a trustworthy "No Fly Zone" area. They will have to become much more than cover man against the likes of Wes Welker, Michael Crabtree, Tavon Austin every passing down. Brandon Flowers through his 7 year career in KC spent the last 5 seasons in the Top 5 rated as a "top efficient corner man" whatever that means. Gaines the Chiefs recent draft pick at CB could help out on the outside plenty. Going with a variety of defenses are a definite given. At times Indianapolis and Denver disallowed the cornerbacks to bump and run alongside them, allowing to set a pick or block to gather space underneath coverage to bust the defense down field.

Brandon Flowers will be a shoe-in for plenty of teams to take a chance on during free agency. Something has to give on the Chiefs current cornerback issues. It won't be easy but not a feat that's insurmountable.
