The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books and the KC Chiefs went with a somewhat surprising pick selecting Auburn DE/OLB, Dee Ford. Ford gives us a much needed 3rd pass rusher and possible successor to Tamba Hali. However, many would suggest this teams has other more pressing needs and while I realize many don't like drafting on a need basis, it plays a part of the process whether you believe it or not.
Personally, I would have preferred a trade back. Something similar to what the Eagles got, or out of the first altogether would have been ok with me. There's a lot of depth in this draft, though not in OLB (this could be a reason Ford was chosen: positional scarcity) and I wanted 2 picks tonight. Unfortunately, as it stands we will only have 1 selection tonight. And while anything can happen, I believe one pick is all we'll have tonight.
If any of you have been following the Mock Draft threads started by CitadelChief you will know I was running quite a few mock simulations via Fanspeak and the site updated all their boards to reflect what was left after round 1 last night. So, I went to mock sim mode this afternoon and thought I'd share some of the results and let you, the AP community choose your favorite mock for the rest of the way.
Please keep in mind these were simulations based on the web site's big board. And while you may not agree with the availability of player chosen, I think last night proved teams boards could be all over the place. I ran three simulations using the Drafttv, Ourlads, and Fanspeak big boards. Here's what we got:
DRAFTTV:
3rd: #87- Allen Robinson, WR Penn State
4th: #124- Will Suton, DT Arizona State
5th: #163- Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT McGill (Canada)
6th: #193- Walt Aikens, CB Liberty
6th: #200- Brent Urban, DE Virginia
Ourlads:
3rd: #87- Bruce Ellington, WR South Carolina
4th: #124- Pierre Desir, CB Lindenwood
5th: #163- Dakota Dozier, OG Furman
6th: #193- Devin Street, WR Pittsburgh
6th: #200- Taylor Hart, DE Oregon
Fanspeak: Was offered a trade with SF and I accepted. Was never offered a decent trade in other mocks.
3rd: #94- Paul Richardson, WR Colorado
4th: #124- Brandon Thomas, OG Clemson
5th: #163- Taylor Hart, DE Oregon
5th: #170- Aaron Colvin, DB Oklahoma
6th: #193- Nickoe Whitley, S Miss State
6th: #200- Ryan Grant, WR Tulane
7th: #242- Colt Lyerla, TE Oregon
Still a lot of good players on the board and we should be able to snag a couple contributors for next season. So, which mock draft is you favorite and WHY?
