Memorial Day Looking back.

As you all know this upcoming weekend is Memorial Day weekend and the day itself is celebrated on Monday. Many memories I have of deceased family include watching football with them. One such instance was watching football with my uncle, it was on Thanksgiving Day and the Bears was playing. My uncle told me to keep an eye on a particular player, going on to say he will become the best running back the NFL has ever seen. The running back was at the beginning of his career. So I did as my Uncle told me to do and made it a point to watch that player as much as I could and as predicted he turned out to be one of the best the NFL has ever seen. His name was Walter Payton. When I think of my Uncle for some reason this memory always pops up.

As a avid Chiefs fan one has to look back at some of the players that has passed on to Football Heaven. One paticular memory was of Joe Delany, for those of you to young to remember.Joe saved a young child from drowning. In the process he lost his own life. I use to enjoy watching Joe run. He reminded me of Earl Campbell, running with so much power. At the time I was dating a Bronco fan. I know what the HECK was I thinking. I enjoyed watching Joe punish the Bronco's and I would rub it in, how much pain he was inflicting on her Bronco's. The story of his death and the way he gave his life touched me and will always be a memory even though I never met the guy.

Well I have touched on two very important aspects but there also is a third. I know that there is a day set aside just to honor our Veterans. To me one day will never be enough for all they have done. So lets also take a second and remember all that have died for us and this Great Nation. Take time to thank the Veterans if they are still alive and if there a family member let them know how proud of them you are. To all APer's that have served in the Armed Forces. You are appreciated more than you will ever know.

All you APer's that have fond memories of time shared with a loved one that has passed. Now is the time to share your memories with your friends. You may also share your thoughts as a fan on the unexpected loss of a Chiefs player such as Delaney or D.Thomas. Maybe share a thought or two on the player as a person or player. Some has you may of had the good fortune to meet them in person, you can share that as well. We do all however need to remember all those that have given there lives for us and our country.
