I think the chiefs were really high on a slot receiver and thought they could get him in the in the 4th round. The problem was he was drafted late in the third. The receiver's name is John Brown out off Pitts State and he was drafted by Arizona.
The reason that I think the chiefs wanted him is the fact that John Dorsey, I think, actually mentions him in one of his draft press conferences. Sorry I'm in Japan right now and only have my iPhone so I'm not going to double check to make sure about Dorsey mentioning Brown but I'm pretty sure he did.
There is no reason for Dorsey to talk about Brown unless Dorsey also went to Pitts State or for the fact that losing the kid was still fresh in his mind. The reason I bring this up now is that I originally found it strange why Dorsey talked about him in the first place and now it has come out that Brown has really impressed Arizona during rookie camp. If you think about it DAT and brown are very similar but I would think Brown is a more polished route runner.
if I'm correct that Dorsey wanted Brown and if what Arizona is saying about Brown's ability is also true then this is yet another example of Dorsey being a good player evaluator. Dorsey seems Especially good at evaluating receivers, Green Bay was always able to find good receivers in the mid to late rounds of the draft.
in closing, I hope that since Dorsey is so good at evaluating receivers and he wasn't very aggressive in trying to replace Avery that this means AJ and Hemingway show lots of promise.
