So, for the most part this free agency has been a surprise! We have had rumor's after rumors, yet we have not picked up one player we have all thought that we are after. Not one guy, (maybe Dressler) has come to the chiefs that most fans expected. I'm here to tell you a surprise free agent pick up, that once all the dust settles that we all will be happy with. I can see us picking up Chris Johnson, first of all he has the last name Johnson. Second of all, no one really knows where anyone is going until they are picked up by a team. All these rumors we here are just gibberish. It has always been one of the first team the player is visiting or some surprise team to sign a free agent.
Reasons why if I was Dorsey I would go after Johnson. First of all Davis has been Injury prone!! He has been injured in college and now has had a MAJOR injury at the professional Level!!. Second he is not a back much different from Charles, he is fast and has always been a capable back at catching the ball. He can play 3rd down and is a very capable blocking back. It would not be much of a step back if Charles is injured and would come at a pretty cheap price in my opinion. If people were willing that the Chiefs give Jackson an 8 million/year contract then 4 million/year shouldn't be that far fetched.
Age wise he is only 28, and will only be 29 after the season begins. Shelf life for a RB is 30. Even through out his hold out and o line issues that he has had the last few seasons, Johnson has produce 6 straight seasons with 1000 or more rushing yards. He has 2 season at witch he has caught the ball 50 or more times. He has also averaged a 4.6 average yard per carry. For a guy who many believe has lost a step, The guys still had a 69 yard reception against the Chiefs that just made our defense (at the time one of the best defenses) look just plain stupid. I believe that a one or two year deal to a team like the chiefs that would utilize his skill set would help this offense tremendously. We would be able to bring out both Charles and Johnson and use both of their speed to kill opposing defenses. While also not losing a beat if one or the other goes down. Not one team has tried the skill set of 2 speed backs like the Andy Reids offense could. Most go with a 2 back system one being speed other being powered, Just think of the possibilities of a Charles and Johnson running back duo, both could be your every down back if needed, yet splitting the carry/reception/touches would only help this offense!
There is always one surprise free agent signing, and I am calling this free agent signing the surprise signing for the Dorsey ran chiefs!
