Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway), this offseason has been quite boring, and it will probably remain so up until OTA's or the draft. All off-seasons breed fan bickering--over who we should draft, who we should sign in free agency, the coaches' decisions from the previous season. One of the most significant arguments of this off-season has been the defensive failing of the season's second half, specifically the role that defensive coordinator Bob Sutton played. Did Sutton fail to adjust his defensive scheme? Were mounting injuries the culprit? Did the Chiefs' defensive players lack the talent to execute Sutton's scheme?
It seems that everyone has his own answer. So I'm going to issue a challenge. This challenge is mainly for those who think that Sutton is an incompetent defensive coach, but it also extends to those who think they have a novel idea on how to scheme a Chiefs defense. In the comments below, post some sort of picture illustrating your defenses. There are 3 rules:
1) Use only defensive players currently on the Chiefs' roster.
2) Provide drawings of a base defense, a nickel defense, and a dime defense ( formations for use against a 2WR 1 TE 2RB set, a 3WR 1 TE 1RB set, and a 4WR 1 RB set).
3) Show gap assignments for D Line and Linebackers, but it's not necessary to show coverage assignments. However, some sort of justification as to why you put each player where you did is necessary.
I hope this gets some sort of response. Have fun!
