First of all, I'd like to say that moving the draft back 2 weeks was a mistake. It's always been the 3rd/4th weekend in April and is now the second weekend in May. I've been reading mock drafts forever and we're still 5 weeks from the draft. Let's get on with it already.
Ok, through reading mock drafts, doing my own research, and accounting for team need, I have a list of 8 names for the first round. The good thing about this draft is that the deepest position (WR) just happens to be one of the Chiefs biggest needs.
Ha Ha Clinton Dix
I'll start with the safeties. I've seen very few mock drafts in which either of those guys are available at 23. Very often, the Eagles and/or the Packers take one of them right before the Chiefs make their pick and this makes sense. But, if things fall right, I think there is a chance to get one of them. Either one would be a massive asset in the Chiefs secondary. I'll take Pryor over Clinton-Dix.
The tight end, Ebron, will most certainly not be there at 23. I've simply included him because he is a stud and the Chiefs need a TE and I can dream.
And now the receivers. Obviously Watkins in going in the top 5 and Evans is most likely going in the top 10. The drafting of the other 3 is where the crap-shoot begins. Will the Chiefs be able to choose among them? Will any of them be available? Most likely at least one of these other 3 receivers will come off the board before the Chiefs pick. My 2 serious man-crushes are Beckham and Cooks, with the latter rising up my want list more and more. I actually like these 2 guys better than Evans.
I'm not crazy high on Lee, but he's still probably worth the pick. My biggest fear is that they will all be off the board and the Chiefs will take Benjamin from Florida State. In this scenario, I would just want the Chiefs to take best available guy from the OL/DL/CB pool.
I'm seeing Beckham climb the draft boards of many experts of late. I'm starting to assume that he'll be gone. This leaves me with the ultimate desire that somehow Brandin Cooks lasts until pick 23. He absolutely ruined the PAC-12 last year with a mediocre QB. His 5-10 frame is the only thing keeping him from being a top 10 pick. He's got DeSean Jackson written all over him, but will come at a fraction of the price.
Ok, just my 2 cents. Thanks.
