Chiefs QB situation.

The Chiefs Qb situation has changed drastically since they acquired a new coach and Front office. Although it cost a second round draft pick. The move to acquire Alex Smith was the right one. We currently have Alex Smith as our starter, Chase Daniels as the back up and Tyler Bray as the third QB and developmental project. I would take any one of these QB's as starters over what we have had to put up with in the last few years.

First lets take a look at Alex Smith. He has done nothing except lead his team to the playoffs, and yet there are still a few doubters. The loss in this years play off game was in no way Smith's fault. One would expect to win a game when your QB leads a team to put up 44 points. Smith has dealt with contraversity his whole career. He has had differant OC's and a rookie pressuring him for his position. Losing it due to injury not his lack of play. I still think the 49er's would of done better this year with Smith at the helm. Now he has a team that has shown confidence in him. Going into his second year and being more comfortable with the offensive scheme. If you look at his numbers at the beginning of the year compared to the last eight games. I think you will see drastic improvementand and he has finally made a connection with Bowe. The future holds nothing but improvement and a lot of upside with Smith.

Now lets look at Chase Daniels. If we acquired Chase a few years back. He would of started over the sub-par QB's that we had on our roster. He is the quality back up that we need. Although we are taking a little more of a salary cap hit then we should be for the back up QB position. It was still a necessary move. We have two years left on his contract and by then hopefully we will have developed a back up and future starting QB.

Next comes Tyler Bray. Some may disagree, but this kid has potential. He has all the physical attributes to be an E-lite QB. He does however lack in the mental aspect of the game. Spending a few years as back up to Alex Smith could be the best thing for him. Smith's strong point is the mental aspect of the game and hopefully this will rub off on Bray. Reid has a nack at bringing out the best of a player at the QB position. The best that can happen is for Bray to eventually become our starting QB. The least is we can developement him to become a player other teams may want and we can trade him for a potential #2 round draft pick like we had to pay for Smith.

The good news is the fact that the Front Office is still looking at QB.'s in the draft. Murray being the most recent. The fact that the team is still trying to improve at every position is a good sign. Especially at the QB position. If Murray is available in the 4th. Drafting him could be the right move, allowing us to let Chase go in a couple years and freeing up some cap space. Bray and Murray both should have ample time to progress to at least a good back up QB.

In summary. What the front office has done at the QB position has made a drastic improvement for our belover Chiefs. The moves made have been the right ones to develope our team to a Championship caliber team. Yet they are still looking to improve the position, because they realize the importance of a quality starting QB. So where does the Front office go from here as far as the QB situation goes?
