I think all Chief fans who are well versed on the current roster situation would agree, only one of these free agent guards will be wearing Chiefs red and gold in 2014. here is the tell of the tape:
Geoff Schwartz- 6'6 340 lbs. 27 years old
Jon Asamoah- 6'4 305lbs 25 years old
I think we all would agree that these are two quality guards that will be starters somewhere. The real question here is, which guy fits the Chiefs needs and budget? I for one believe that Asamoah will have a lower asking price due to his injury last year and the inability to regain his starting RG position. Schwartz is the larger of the two, and once he replaced Asamoah, the Chiefs offense began to show dramatic improvement in both the running and passing game. Both guys are relatively young at 27, and 25 respectively, so age is not a huge factor. Unless Schwartz agent comes in with a huge salary number, I for one, think that Schwartz is the better fit. I also read that Schwartz is better suited for the blocking scheme used by Andy Reid. With the improved continuity Schwartz provided the last half of the season, it seems best for KC to try and keep that element headed in the right direction. What say you, fellow Chief fans?
