Hey everyone! This is my first fan post so don't completely rip it to shreds if you don't agree, just partial ripping will do.
I was thinking about our players that should/need to be extended (Berry, Smith and Houston) and trying to figure out why it hasn't happened yet. My first though was maybe we don't want to extend them. If Dorsey feels he has no reason to worry about losing these players then why should he? Then I remembered that Houston and Berry are two of the best young defenders in the league and that Smith is a QB and QBs all get signed even if they suck.
The next scenario is that we have plenty of time to get this done. If Dorsey is thinking about the draft now, we have plenty of money to sign those rookies so a restructure isn't necessary. These extension could not come until the middle of the year. I personally would like them to be done by camp so there are no distractions.
Then my last thought came yesterday. What if Dorsey is trying to throw everyone off (and I'm not talking the fans)? What if Dorsey is throwing up a smokescreen for the draft? When you think about the logic it makes sense. Without Smith signing an extension, teams could think that we are actually in the running for a QB. At the 23rd spot a QB falling is the best shot we have to trade back (in my opinion). Also that could go for every QB in the draft, not just the first round ones. This theory doesn't work as well for Eric and Justin, but could still apply for a top notch pass rusher.
Dorsey might be smarter to an all of us. But now that I write this, all three will sign an extension today. Let my know what you think. Thanks for reading!
