The Philadelphia Eagles released WR DeSean Jackson on Friday. Will the Kansas City Chiefs pursue him?

Update: We're tracking the DeSean Jackson rumors over here now.

Well, it happened. The Eagles actually released DeSean Jackson. This is your "Should the Chiefs sign DeSean Jackson?" post. 610 Sports Danny Parkins reports the Chiefs are among the teams who have reached out. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that at least six teams quickly reached out.

  • The good: DeSean is a damn good. The Andy Reid connection.
  • The bad: He could be expensive. The Chiefs have about $4.5 million in cap space, according to the NFLPA. They'll need about $1.4 million of that for their draft picks. They could create more cap space by releasing or restructuring the contracts of other players.
  • The ugly: I think that would be this.

Read Jackson's statement on his release, where he mentions Andy Reid (or Reed).

Andy Reid was asked about Jackson at the owners meetings this week.

Q: On DeSean Jackson.

Reid: "I have nothing but good things to say about the kid. I did draft him. I had a great relationship with him, when his father passed away, that was a hard thing for him to go through at a young age. They were best friends. I've experienced life things with him, so I would tell you he was great for me when I was there."

Q: Do you find it hard to believe given what you know about him and seeing what he did in that offense last year that they would be looking to trade him?

Reid: "I don't know what's real and what's not real. I haven't looked into it either way. I've stayed away; I don't really care about that, so I don't know what's real and what's not real. I'm happy that he had a great year. I'm happy that Chip (Kelly) had a great year with him and that's where it stops for me."

We asked our readers earlier this month if they would trade for Jackson. More than half said they would give up a third round pick or more for him.

Charlie Casserly wondered in this video if the Chiefs would be a good fit.
