Kansas City Chiefs 2014 offseason schedule

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Below you can find the Kansas City Chiefs 2014 offseason schedule, including the start of free agency and the 2014 NFL Draft.

The offseason is here for the Kansas City Chiefs and every other NFL team. The big items in the offseason are free agency (March 11) and the 2014 NFL Draft (May 8-10) but there's plenty more that goes on in between.

There are a handful of other important dates Chiefs fans need to keep in mind this offseason:

Franchise tags, Feb. 17-March 3: This is the period in which teams can apply the franchise tag. The Chiefs top free agents are Branden Albert, who was on the franchise tag last year, Tyson Jackson and Dexter McClusterSee all franchise candidates here.

NFL Combine, Feb. 19-25: Somehow this has become a huge deal.

Negotiation period, March 8-11: Or legal tampering. Teams weren't allowed to talk to agents before free agency. Teams did anyway, breaking the rules. So the league created a three-day window before free agency begins when these talks could occur.

Franchise tag long-term contracts, July 15: If the Chiefs franchise tag a player, they will have until July 15 to sign him to a long-term contract. If there is no deal, then that player must play out the rest of the season on the 1-year franchise tag.
