From the FanPosts. Interesting idea. -Joel
I used to post on here every now and then a few years ago, but I've been a lurker ever since I moved to a different town and work two jobs now instead of one.
Anyway, I wanted to offer up an idea about changing the NFL schedule and see what you all thought. I'd love to see some people add to or take away from it. This post is made purely to spark conversation on the topic. I may not be able to be in depth in the conversation portion, but hey, IT'S A LONG OFFSEASON, so this gives us something to do!
The NFL has had a major focus on player safety recently, and I think we all wish football season were longer than what it is. I have one idea that could lengthen the season a little bit. I'll list some pros and cons, and I encourage everyone to feel free to add your own in the comments section.
My idea would be to give each team 2-3 bye weeks instead of 1.
I propose this change with the idea that it could extend the regular season by 2 weeks without adding any more games to the schedule.Pros:
*Makes the season a little longer
*Gives injured players a week or two more to rest during a strenuous season
*Allows the NFL to explore more "cold weather" Super Bowls, as this would push the Super Bowl into the later part of February, maybe even the first Sunday in March, depending on how they wanted to schedule it out.
*Less turn around time between schedule release (April) and the draft (May). This means LESS TIME FOR MOCK DRAFTS (hopefully because we'd be winning Super Bowls and all). I don't know if AP would rejoice or cry due to this one.Cons:
*The NFLPA would probably complain that it cuts into the players' offseason rest.
*Multiple bye weeks for fans to have to wait through instead of one.
...so there it is. Let me know what you think. I'd post a poll, but I know that "Not Sure" would win, so I'll just skip that part.
Have an awesome day!
