Do you understand what is happening??

This is awesome time to be a Chiefs fan and I am not even sure if you know why.

Yes, we played what was possibly the most well rounded game of my lifetime as a Chiefs fan.

Yes, we have depth. Not just people behind the starters, but people who can actually come into the game and perform well enough for us to win. Our 2nd string would destroy several of our best offerings over the past 6 or 7 years. Remember when Napoleon Harris was our MLB? Remember the horrible bend but don't break that we had to endure when Romeo was HC? Yeah we had it when he was DC, but his defenses go to pot when he can't keep a constant eye on them.

And speaking of Coaching, if you know me, then you know that I am elated over the fact that we can develop talent. Coaching is such a huge part of the NFL and we finally have all aspects of it from calling and designing plays to player development.

All of this is wonderful, but not the reasons you should be sitting back taking this moment in.

I have a radio show coming up soon (shameless plug), and I wanted this to be one of my first episodes based on the Chiefs, but I can't hold my excitement anymore.

We all know that the NFL is a constantly evolving league. And you have two positions and 2 position only that a club can be in......Leaders and followers. At this stage in the life of the NFL, I think it is pretty safe to say that There is nothing new under the sun. So whatever is being done, has likely been done before whether it was College, the Canadian league, or the NFL. But what does change is the leaders.

One thing that I have always admired about the Patriots is that they are definitely not followers. They were running the 3-4 on D when most teams were running the 4-3. Then as teams began to realize the versatility of the 3-4, we have (I believe) more teams running the 3-4 this year than ever before.......and the Pats switched to the 4-3.

Then on offense, while everyone else was changing to the spread offense (often times using 3 or more receivers), the Pats were working on perfecting the Ultimate 2 TE set. The 2 TE set itself is again, nothing new. But typically 2 TE sets consist of one run blocking TE and one Pass catching or combo TE. What New England did was put out a combo TE and a receiving TE. And one was an ok blocker and the other was a great blocker as well. Then they put Wes Welker underneath and used whoever had a Pats Jersey to run the ball. The WR other than the slot was an after thought position. That is in my opinion why the Pats are struggling. I believe that they lost the pieces to run their signature offense and they weren't prepared to do anything else. Gronk got hurt and Hernandez got caught. Then they made the mistake of thinking that Amendola could be Welker. They lost all of their pieces except for the QB when it comes to doing what they were built to do. Now they have ok running backs , mediocre receivers, and a recovering TE. IMO, that is why they are struggling and they will continue to do so until they figure out a new identity with the pieces they have.

I have many theories. And sometimes they run so deep that I could be considered a conspiracy theorist. But many times they play out. And this one so far has been playing out. The Eagles have been my NFC team since Randall Cunningham was my favorite QB back in the day. I have seen Andy Reid a fairly good amount of time. One thing that I thought really hurt Reid was that he didn't have anything new to reveal when he got to the playoffs. So everyone knew what he was going to do and they were more prepared to stop it. We all knew that he liked throwing the ball more than he liked running. So much so in fact the he uses a ton of short passing plays to take the place of runs. So when he got to KC, many said "he is not going to use Charles" as a runner just like he didn't use Shady McCoy". I also had this fear as I knew it was a possibility, but I was really hoping that he would take this as an opportunity to correct the things he did wrong in Philly. It seems that is what has happened. But he has taken it a step further.

My fellow Chiefs fans, we are witnessing what it feels like to be in driver's seat. Welcome to the front of the line because we are now leaders.

Many have brought up our lack of dynamic playmakers at the WR position. At first I thought that Dorsey and Reid were just being patient, but now, I think that might have been the plan. If you don't agree, then I present a question to you....... Why didn't we draft a receiver? I now think it is because we didn't need one bad enough for what the staff planned to do.

Here is another question. How many receivers have we drafted or brought in and kept since Reid and Dorsey got here? He brought in Donnie Avery and swapped Jon Baldwin for AJ Jenkins. Nice moves, but hardly "upgrading the group". My point is that we have not put much effort into the WR position. This is completely bucking the current curve of where the NFL seems to be going. Many if not most teams strategies seem to be ...... 1 Get a big armed QB. 2. Get tall receivers on the outside. 3. Get a small and quick "Wes Welker" to work the middle. 4. Find a really huge TE that can catch. The RB position is nearly obsolete. This is proven by the first RB in the draft being taken in the 2nd round!

Here is another one of my theories. I don't think it is very easy to come up with a defense that is great at stopping a spread offense AND stopping a power running game. So I have been waiting to see who the next team was going to be to bring the power running game back and my friends, it seems like it is us (and the Cowboys??!?!?).

We are leading a trend and not following!!

Now one could argue that the Seahawks are running a power run game, but I beg to differ. Marshawn Lynch is the focal point no doubt, but Russel Wilson is the cog. It won't always show up in fantasy, but the way Russell runs that offense is a thing of beauty. I don't think Lynch wouldn't be nearly as effective if Wilson wasn't behind him.

But what we are doing here is something completely different. And while I said that there is nothing new under the sun, I have to add that I have personally never seen anything like what we are doing on offense. I mentioned that we haven't put the WR position at the top of our list of needs, but what we have put emphasis on is ...the RB position?? "But wait, this is a passing league?"

We had 5, again I say 5 running backs on the 53 man roster to start the season!! And that is where our best player resides. And of the 5, Reid brought in 3 of them, and of the 3, 2 were drafted by Reid! But we took it a step further.

We picked up a veteran TE in Fasano. Then we got a TE in the draft. And the final piece of evidence to support my theory is that we picked up a project at TE who was straight RAW. A guy being converted from a hoops player to the 53 man roster just 2 years later. Harris was not only a project, but I think he was a part of the overall plan.

The 3 Combo TE set. Why do I say combo?.....because all 3 can block AND catch.

This is unheard of in today's NFL. But the best part of all is that one of these guys was completely built in house. That is a testament of the coaches we have now.

Ok. Let me jump to Madden real quick....just bear with me. I haven't played alot over the last few years, but I was a pretty good clean Madden player and I always played with the Chiefs. I HATE glitches so I didn't use them (hence the clean part). My strategy was to simply come up with something that was nearly unstoppable using the personnel I had. One of my favorite things to do was to use the RB (priest in my most dominant years) and have him run wheel routes out of the backfield. I have the TE streak on the same side of the field, and then have the WR run a quick slant in the opposite direction, but all from the same side of the field. I would slightly vary these things, but that was my strategy because that was near impossible for a defense to stop that much firepower on one side of the field. Then at times, I would run to the weakside because the D had to prepare to stop the side all of the action was happening on.

That is where we are. We have 3 TE who can catch and block, and 2 that can really run....fast. We also have a very solid WR who happens to be the best blocking WR in the league IMO. He has to be accounted for because he can get it done one on one against anyone, Right Darelle Revis? And now we have not 1, but 2 very strong runners at the RB positions. And they can catch as well. And we haven't even seen DAT yet. Who knows what he can bring to all of this. I think he will be covering the underneath for us.

We are capable of driving the ball down anyone's throat. Why? Because we have can have 4 extra blockers on the field. But not just regular blockers, we can add up to 4 extra blockers who all have to be accounted for in the passing game!! And if they happen to be stuffing the run, can they stop our running backs from catching the ball? And what if we put Charles and DAT in at RB and have them run wheel routes in opposite directions and have Kelce run a deep post? Think for a moment, outside of a sack, and a horrible pass, how could a defense defend this?

And did I mention our QB can run?? So dropping everyone back won't necessarily be the answer.

We have an offense that if used correctly could be unstoppable. I can't wait to see what else the mad scientist also know as Andy Reid (and Childress) will continue to come up with.

Man, I can't wait until Sunday!! Chiefs!!!!
