When the NFL awarded New York (I mean, New Jersey) the 2014 Super Bowl, there were lots of articles that later came out from other cold-weather cities who said they, too, would want to bid on a Super Bowl.
We're all waiting to see how this year's Super Bowl goes first, as Clark Hunt told the Wall Street Journal this week.
"New York has a long history of hosting big events and they're going to put on a great show," Hunt said. "I have every confidence that it will be one of the best super Bowls ever from many different angles.
"Clearly, the one wild card sitting out there is what the weather will be. I think probably the thing that will influence the owners when deciding for another Super Bowl for New York or, frankly, for another outdoor, cold-weather market will be does the weather behave on Sunday. If it does, I think it's likely a game goes back to New York and perhaps elsewhere as well."
Elsewhere? Like, perhaps Kansas City?
"Clearly, having an open air stadium would make it a challenge," Hunt said when asked about a Kansas City Super Bowl bid. "But we all said when New York got the game, they were really going to lay the foundation for what happens next. If there is an opportunity to bid on a Super Bowl, I would expect Kansas City to be in that mix."
Well, that's exciting. The Chiefs chances of getting it would seem to be slim given some of the other bigger cities that could be involved. But still pretty cool.
