I am going to go off on a little rant here because I seriously don't understand what the NFL or the RGFL (Roger Goodell Football League) is thinking.
I personally think both of these proposals are dumb. Its not football in my mind. Goodell needs to get off his high horse and quit trying to change the game. It was never broken, so why try to fix it. The extra point may be pointless, but I feel this takes away the whole integrity of the game. Integrity may be the wrong word that I am looking for but let me explain. So you score a TD, and you are a coach who loves to gamble, so you go for 2(or 1 I guess) and you don't make it, so you lose a point and go back to 6. On the other side you have a conservative coach who just takes the 7. All of a sudden it's a 14-6 game, and you score again, so you will need to go for 2 again just to tie. You miss and are down by 2 now. What is the point of all this? Why turn the game into something it doesn't need to be. There is nothing wrong with the extra point (kick) or the decision to go for two. Why change the game? I just don't understand it and there is nothing that will convince me otherwise.
Side note----say the Chiefs have one of those gambling coaches who loves to go for the "extra" point. How pissed off will you be as a fan if the Chiefs continually lose games because the coach always goes for "2"?
I just don't understand why Goodell thinks he needs to change the game so much. I never feel like the extra point is a gimme. You can have a bad snap, or the kicker could slip or shank one. Granted yes this doesn't happen very often, but it can happen.
Why take it away? What is the benefit of taking it away? I just think its retarded to say "ok well now you can either take your 7 or try for an additional point and if you don't make it you lose a point".....to me you don't change something that isn't broken, why turn this game into some fantasy type of stuff.
Keep the game the same, the NFL is the best sport out there, has been for a long time and will be for many more years.....unless of course we start changing the rules every year, where the game will never look like it used to.
Why bring more strategy into the game? What's so wrong with the current system, that has made the NFL the most watched sport in the world?
