Doing the math.

I don't know how anyone else feels about the past season but I, for one, have decided that I can not expect the referees to intervene in any meaningful way against teams that don't stay within the rules. One season after the supension of 2 coaches for improper coaching and bounty setting I see the same old crap from several teams in the league this year. More disturbing is that both teams that are in the league championship game do different versions of the same philosophy. I don't think it is any accident that both the #1 offense in the league and the #1 defense in the league are arguably the worst offenders of deliberately playing with illegal tactics with the knowledge that the referees will not call them 80% of the time. Simply put, they have done the math and decided that playing outside the rules 80% of the time is an important enough edge that they are willing to take the penalties that are called against them.

The staff of the Chiefs need to account for this type of play because it has become abundantly clear that certain teams have done the math and are willing to play outside the rules. The Chiefs cannot expect the referees to save them from this next season.
