Another day, another award for the Kansas City Chiefs. GM John Dorsey, who was hired in Kansas City almost a year ago to the day, has been named the executive of the year by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA).

The coach of the year award went to the Panthers' Ron Rivera. Here are all the award winners.
There's no doubt the Chiefs had talent on the roster when Dorsey arrived but he made several moves that helped transform the Chiefs into contenders. The biggest one by far was trading for Alex Smith, which stabilized the quarterback position and provided a huge statistical turnaround for the Chiefs at the game's most important position.
Dorsey also retained WR Dwayne Bowe and Dustin Colquitt via long-term deals and used the franchise tag on OT Branden Albert.

Dorsey also signed free agents DE Mike DeVito, CB Sean Smith, LB Akeem Jordan and WR Donnie Avery. There were several under-the-radar moves that netted important players including Geoff Schwartz, Marcus Cooper and Quintin Demps.
The highlight of the Chiefs free agency was their "second draft". On roster cut down weekend a week before the season, the Chiefs snagged seven players off the waiver wire, including Sean McGrath, who ended up playing critical roles for the team.
Notice I haven't even mentioned the draft yet. That's because Dorsey's work in free agency was arguably more successful. Due to injuries and other factors, No. 1 pick OT Eric Fisher and third round pick RB Knile Davis were the only ones who made a big impact. DE Mike Catapano saw some playing time, too.
Congrats to Dorsey and the Chiefs on yet another award. The Associated Press awards, which will be announced on Super Bowl weekend, could add to the trophy pile.
Also, the last Chiefs GM to win this award came just a few years ago ...
#Chiefs won the Executive of the Year award in 2010 too... for Scott Piolo. Kiss of death, eh @ArrowheadPride ?
