well, it's about time!

It's been a long time coming, it's going to be a long time gone ... " - Crosby, Stills and Nash

Yup, it's been WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too long, hasn't it? months and years and decades since I posted on and ... wait, forget that, ok? Let's concentrate on what REALLY matters: the Chiefs, and yes, today they actually won a game. I'm going to repeat that because it feels SO good to hear it (even if it's only in my head) ... the Chiefs won a football game today. A real game. A game that counts. Not preseason. A real, actual, counts-in-the-standings football game.

Ok, fine ... it was against the lowly Jags and seriously, could that team be any more inept (and is "ept" the opposite of inept? The first person with the correct answer wins a genuine Scott Pioli candy wrapper, but I digress) ... I mean think about it: how many of us really care that today's win came against arguably the worst team in the NFL? Raise your hand if that bothers you ... hold on, counting ... counting ... right, that's what I thought. Zero. None. Nobody. Not one of us cares about anything right now except for the satisfaction of knowing that our beloved Chiefs actually won a game.

"But you know that the darkest hour Is always just before the dawn"

And how dark was it last year? Half of Chiefs Nation spent the winter buying flashlights and batteries, it was that dark. Many of us were forced to do something OTHER than watch games a year ago just to maintain sanity and dignity (alright, dignity ... sanity is something that I wouldn't recognize if it moved in with me). Oh yeah, it was dark. Bleak. Black as the heart of a Raiders fan (and, and as extra added bonus, the Raiders lost today to the Colts ... ice cream on the apple pie a la mode) but there's a glimmer of hope ... a ray of sunshine ... an Alex Smith where once there was Matty Nice. Junior Hemingway instead of Jon Baldwin. Andy Reid instead of Scott Pioli! (Sure, this is where someone/anyone/everyone points out that Reid is HC not GM yadda yadda yadda ... who cares, ok? Just go with the flow here) ... what we have here, my friends is a chance, and really, isn't that all we ask?

"There's somethin' goin' on around here thet surely, surely won't stand the light of day"

It's just one game, and tomorrow morning the team goes back to work to get ready for the NEXT game while the rest of us go back to work (or not) and it was against the worst team in the league and Manning is gonna obliterate every passing record that ever lived before the bye week and we'll probably miss the playoffs, but ... for a day, just one deliciously wonderful fall day ... our Kansas City Chiefs are WINNERS. In fact, today both the Royals AND Chiefs won, and that hasn't happened since Jimmy Carter was President (ok, so I made that up but it sounds about right) ... today we saw a genuine QB throw a pair of TD passes ... in the same half! Today we saw Tamba Hali not just intercept a pass (Hali? did what???) but run the thing into the end zone for a TD (so, Tamba, how does it feel to have as many TD's as Jamaal Charles?)

Sure it's only one game. Yeah it may only last for a week. But right now our Chiefs are undefeated and tied for 1st place in the AFC West. It may not mean much in the long run, but for a day at least, we have something to hold on to. For a small, shining moment, Chiefs fans have something to feel good about. Today we have a winning team. Enjoy it while you can, my friends ... I know I will.

Geaux Chiefs!
