Chiefs-Eagles final score: Andy Reid returns to Philly a winner, 26-16

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The KC Chiefs did it. They beat the Philadelphia Eagles. The final score was 26-16 with Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles and Donnie Avery starring on offense for the Chiefs. The real star of the show on Thursday Night Football was the Chiefs defense, who looked outstanding once again. The game was sloppy but the Chiefs move to 3-0! Read on for a recap.

Andy Reid and Chip Kelly met on the field before the game.

Eagles fans CHEERED Andy Reid upon his return.

FIRST QUARTER

Opening kickoff: Quintin Demps 58-yards run into Philly territory. Finally, that's the big return we've been waiting on. Chiefs start with great field position but...

Chiefs first possession: Despite great field position, the Chiefs punt it away.

FUMBLE! The Eagles muffed the punt and the Chiefs recovered inside the Eagles 10-yard line.

Chiefs second possession: Chiefs kick a field goal. First non-TD in the red zone this year.

The Chiefs ran it once to Jamaal Charles, and then an option to Dexter McCluster that was going nowhere quick, and finally Alex Smith was sacked after scrambling for what seemed like forever.

That field goal in the red zone is the first time the Chiefs haven't scored a touchdown on the field goal.

Eagles first possession: After a pass to Shady McCoy and DeSean Jackson -- "The Big Three" in Philly -- Michael Vick throws a pass that was tipped by Derrick Johnson and fell directly into the hands of ... ERIC BERRY! He returned it all the way back for a CHIEFS TOUCHDOWN! Chiefs lead 10-0.

10-0 Chiefs with 11:12 remaining in the first quarter.

Eagles second possession: Chiefs defense holds strong and forces a punt.

Justin Houston got credit for a sack. Vick went down on the play and Houston was the first one there.

Chiefs third possession: Another sloppy possession. Chiefs punt.

Eagles third possession: Eagles score a TD on an 87-yard drive, making it 10-6, Chiefs.

Boom! 61-yard run by Vick. Just like that, he cut up the middle of the field and it was off to the races. Brandon Flowers was among those chasing him down.

On his TD pass, Vick was absolutely drilled by Derrick Johnson. But credit Vick, the pass was there.

The Eagles went for two but did not get it.

Chiefs fourth possession: After one first down, the Chiefs punt it away.

Alex found Donnie Avery for 15-yard gain on 3rd-and-15. Avery had a 31-yard third down reception last week.

After four possessions, the Chiefs offense doesn't look very good.

Eric Fisher is getting worked over.

Eagles fourth possession: FUMBLE! C Jason Kelce fumbled the snap, giving it back to the Chiefs.

SECOND QUARTER

Chiefs fifth possession: Ryan Succop missed a 51-yard field goal attempt.

The Chiefs started this drive at their own 50. The offense is having trouble moving the ball.

Eagles fifth possession: Philly punts it away.

Nice play by Sean Smith in 1-on-1 coverage to break up a Vick pass.

In consecutive plays Justin Houston batted a Vick pass down and Tamba Hali sacked him.

Chiefs sixth possession: 31-yard field goal by Ryan Succop makes it 13-6, Chiefs.

The Chiefs biggest play of the season so far: Alex Smith to Donnie Avery for 51 yards. The ball traveled less than 10 yards in the air and Avery did the rest of the work, just splitting the defense with his speed.

Eagles sixth possession: Sean Smith picked off Michael Vick. Four turnovers (so far) for Philly.

Chiefs seventh possession: Chiefs settle for another field goal, making it 16-6, Chiefs.

3rd-and-19. Alex hits Avery on a crossing route over the middle and Avery somehow picks it up.

Eagles seventh possession: Eagles punt it away.

LeSean McCoy went down with an injury. It was scary but he walked off under his own power.

Chiefs eighth possession: Bad clock management from the Chiefs. They let too much time run off the clock while trying to get into field goal range. Andy Reid wanted the refs to stop the clock for a measurement but they didn't. Alex's hail Mary was incomplete.

First half stats:

Chiefs average starting position in first half: 43-yard line.

THIRD QUARTER

Eagles eighth possession: Eagles punt it away.

LeSean McCoy came back into the game.

Chiefs ninth possession: Chiefs punt it away. Still can't do anything offensively.

Eagles ninth possession: Chiefs defense steps up big to hold Eagles to a field goal. 16-9, Chiefs.

LeSean McCoy went up the middle of the field for 30 yards. That leg isn't bothering him anymore.

Sean Smith went down grabbing his leg as if he had a cramp. Eagles fans were booing as if he was faking it to slow down the Eagles offense.

Eric Berry bad an illegal contact on a 3rd-and-14, giving the Eagles the automatic first down. The next play he broke up a pass in the secondary.

Chiefs 10th possession: Alex Smith is sacked twice as Chiefs punt it away again.

Eagles 10th possession: Missed field goal by Eagles.

Brandon Flowers went down with cramps but he's OK. Once again, Eagles fans thought he was faking it.

FOURTH QUARTER

Chiefs 11th possession: Jamaal Charles punches it in for six. Chiefs lead 23-9.

Charles had an 18-yard run that set the Chiefs up at the one.

Eagles 11th possession: LeSean McCoy took it 41 yards to the house. Chiefs lead 23-16.

Right up the gut, McCoy was gone right after he hit the second level.

Chiefs 12th possession: Succop's FG makes it 26-16, Chiefs.

Big error by Dexter McCluster, who dropped the kick forcing the Chiefs to start at their own five-yard line.

Best drive of the night from the Chiefs who took an incredible eight minutes off the clock with that drive. Starting at their own five yard line, the Chiefs drove down to the Eagles 21-yard line, enough for Succop to boot it through.

Eagles 12th possession: Chiefs defense holds strong and forces a punt.

Chiefs 13th possession: Chiefs went for it on fourth and one from the goal line but did not get it, turning it over on downs.

Eagles 13th possession: Eagles turn it over with a strip-sack. The Justin Houston show.

Chiefs 14th possession: VICTORY FORMATION! CHIEFS WIN, 26-16. 3-0!
