Overall I'm extremely happy with our defense and think we could have something extremely special with this defense. Anyways I noticed something after re-watching the game and looking at the secondary (as best as I could) in the first half where we got torched by Dez Bryant. Early on it was obvious that Sutton had the confidence in Flowers to play man to man on island with no safety help against a Reciever that is probably top 3 in natural athleticism and ability playing the position (behind Megatron and Julio Jones). The whole first half I was grinding my teeth thinking what the hell this guy (Sutton) was doing. He had flowers on an island with Bryant but on top of that he did not camoflauge the coverage at all and was making it so obvious to Romo it was ridiculous. See going back to his Jets' days with Rex Ryan and company the Jets would mostly use this coverage and that's what made their defense extremely successful early on in Ryan's tenure. They would leave Revis on an island with the offense's top recieving threat and then double cover everyone else, I saw a good amount of the same coverage today. This may have worked for the Jets but It will be disastrous for us if we try that again for example, say Thursday night against the Desean Jackson we try that? I'm cringing just thinking about it. Flowers is a great corner, but he simply does not have the speed or length to deal with top 5 wide outs with no safety help. But my two main points of this article are that I wouldn't worry about Flowers(He is still a top 10 corner) because simply Sutton was giving him a defensive assignment that probably only two defensive backs could carry out with an ounce of success (Revis and Sherman). And once Sutton made the proper adjustment by doubling Dez our Defense was great, proving the point what this defense can truly be when used right. All I'm saying is I hope we don't come out on Thursday night and do the same dumb-shit play calling we did in the first half against the Cowboys. Sean Smith will be more than good enough to go on an island with Riley Cooper, while it would be wise to give Flowers help with Jackson. My main point is Sutton has brought to this defense the right "scheme" per say were we are a 1-gap attacking team, but I think he could be better at play-calling, just sayin' (though in the second half his play-calling was very good). I know he has his job for a reason but just my opinion. Did you guys notice the same thing?
