Chiefs at Saints: What I Saw

Let me just say that I am happy that I can bring this back as this is what I started when I first joined Arrowhead Pride over 2 years ago.

So the Chiefs lost. My mom was worried but I told her the same thing people told me last year. It is only preseason so get back to me in September when the games start counting.

All said though, I was actually pretty happy with some aspects and others worry me. All that said, here is what I saw...

Backup Front 7- OK now I see where some people were getting at. I am not sure if it was the lack of talent or the vanilla play calling but ouch. Not really what I want to see from this group. Sure there are some nice players like Nico Johnson and Orie Lemon but most of it was just bad.

Tackling- I was really impressed with the tackling overall. Sure there was some missed tackles but none that really stuck out to me. I liked that I heard some pads popping from hits. That means someone is doing what I like to see.

Agnew is the new Jalil Brown- Remember Jalil Brown last year? How every QB would pick on him? Well that was Agnew tonight. Saints QB Luke McCown was calling his number every damn time it seemed. These less experienced players have to learn some how.

Third String QB Battle- Ricky Stanzi's experience and mobility showed. It was nice to see Tyler Bray in action on TV rather than tape so I can see him in action but he is as mobile as a sack of bricks. Kind of hard to see how Bray is when the pocket collapses all the time. Bray's accuracy and arm talent showed a little bit and should have had a TD pass but Travis Kelce dropped it. Didn't help that the defense couldn't stop the Saints offense at times so we only got to see him for a few series less than Stanzi. I still cannot make a clear judgment on it but give me another week.

Special Teams- If there is one area that is night and day from last year already, its Special Teams. I am just in amazement how good it feels to see a nice return and not get called back. Dexter McCluster is a boss, Knile Davis let one rip right down the field and even Rico Richardson had a nice return. Tyler Shoemaker had a big mistake that he realized and Devon Wylie did OK. Dustin Colquitt did what he does best and I think Jalil Brown makes the roster from Special Teams alone. It seems if the opposing team is stuck in their 10 yard line, Brown had something to do with it. Oh and they contained former Chief Steve Breaston quite well.

Other- The other RB spots look solid from what I can tell. Not that worried about who is behind Charles just yet. We saw Jamaal Charles take a carry at the goalline that was nice to see. It appears the FB position is alive and well in KC. It appears that the Chiefs base will be 1 RB, 1 FB, 1 TE, 2 WR sets. The Tight End position will be interesting to watch and for the better.

I am going to keep tonight's edition quite short but overall I liked what I saw. There will be some things changed for the better.
