Chiefs 53-man roster projections: What has Andy Reid done in the past?

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan over at KC Chiefs Blog has a post up with some very important information. It's a six-year look at how many players Andy Reid has kept at each position.

Go over there and read this post at KC Chiefs Blog because it's got some important info in there on what Reid has done with his 53-man rosters in the past.

This is just how Reid's initial 53-man roster looked over the last six years. Things change over the season, of course, but it's a neat look at how he's done things. A few of the interesting parts of it:

In the last six years Andy Reid has never kept less than nine offensive linemen. This is important! Every 53-man roster projection I've seen has had the Chiefs keeping eight. So if he keeps nine, you're probably picking a player from this list: Matt ReynoldsRokevious WatkinsTommie Draheim.

Reid has kept just five receivers in four of the last six years. We think we know at least four that will make it: Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery, Dexter McCluster, AJ Jenkins. Who else -- Devon Wylie, Junior Hemingway? Maybe it's just one of those two.

Reid hasn't kept more than two tight ends on the roster since 2008. Soo, Anthony Fasano + Travis Kelce is a possibility? It would appear so. But also remember that Kelce has been banged up. The Chiefs may decide to carry a third tight end for that reason.

The defensive stats are also interesting but they're a little skewed because the Chiefs are running a 3-4 in Kansas City vs. the 4-3 in Philly. That'll affect the number of defensive linemen and linebackers.

After looking at all of this, Ryan came up with this 53-man roster. I wish I had thought of doing this first! Good stuff.
