Packers-Chiefs final score: Tyler Bray throws 3 TDs as KC beats GB, 30-8

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Green Bay Packers 30-8 on Thursday night at Arrowhead, the final game of the preseason. With the win the Chiefs move to 2-2 on their 2013 preseason schedule. Players that stood out in the game include Tyler Bray and Cyrus Gray among others.

The quarterback report

Alex Smith: Did not play. He dressed out for the game but Chase Daniel started. The right decision.

Chase Daniel: 4-of-8 for 27 yards and 1 INT. Not his best performance. He was sacked twice. The offensive line struggled, yes, but so did he. Chase played the entire first quarter and the first few minutes of the second. Alex Smith has his limitations and Chase seems to have the same, but Alex has a better grasp of running the offense it seems.

Tyler Bray: 14-of-25 for 169 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT. He entered the game at the 11:36 mark of the second quarter and played the rest of the game. His big arm was evident as he went deep a few times, including a 43-yard touchdown to Josh Bellamy. He also showed some touch with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Junior Hemingway as the first half ended. Tyler Bray was the better quarterback on this night.

WR Frankie Hammond Jr.

LB Frank Zombo

FIRST HALF OBSERVATIONS

AJ Jenkins was the kick return man on the first few returns.

The first play of the game: Chase Daniel in the pistol. Intercepted by Tramon Williams. Target was AJ Jenkins. Ugh.

The Chiefs recovered on defense, holding Green Bay to five yards in four plays. The Packers kicked a 48-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead.

Frankie Hammond Jr. muffed a punt.

Donald Stephenson, playing left tackle, had a false start call against him. He later had another false start call against him.

Frank Zombo, former Packer, stepped right in front of a BJ Coleman pass and intercepted it. He took it back 27 yards to the Chiefs 14-yard line.

How hot was it? I saw medical personnel tending to a man right in front of the press box. The people he was with were fanning him so I am guessing it was heat-related.

Tyler Bray came into the game with 11:37 left in the second quarter.

Another field goal from Ryan Succop, this time from 48 yards, makes it 6-3 Chiefs.

Another field goal makes it 6-6. I can't contain my excitement.

Tyler Bray was hit from his blindside and fumbled but the Chiefs recovered.

SECOND HALF OBSERVATIONS

Chiefs LB Josh Martin recovered a fumble in the backfield.

Tyler Bray threw a pick to Packers' Brandon Smith. Rico Richardson was the target.

The defender on Josh Bellamy slipped, allowing Tyler Bray to throw him a 43-yard bomb for the touchdown. That's 20-6 Chiefs.

Frankie Hammond Jr. has been taking the punt returns and he had an unfortunate one he let go. Thinking it was going into the end zone, Hammond let the ball drop but the Packers down it inside the 1-yard line. And then Bray was sacked for a safety.

Yet another Chiefs field goal makes it 23-8. Same score as KC's 2007 playoff loss to Indianapolis.

Your big-ish punt returns come from Frankie Hammond Jr. -- one for 33 yards and another for 46 yards. The magic of Dave Toub continues.

Tyler Bray's THIRD touchdown pass is a nine-yard completion to Frankie Hammond. The Chiefs went 41 yards in 10 play.

John Dorsey meets old friends

Chiefs GM John Dorsey was a player and scout and front office man for the Green Bay Packers for a few decades. The Packers took the field for warm-ups and Dorsey was spotted talking to a number of Packers, including Jordy Nelson and Aaron Rodgers. He was also spotted talking to Packers president Mark Murphy.
