The KC Chiefs roster currently stands at 75 players after they cut 15 players earlier this week. By Saturday night at 5 p.m. (Arrowhead Time), the Chiefs roster will have to be at 53 players, which means 22 more cuts are to come.
Some of those roster cuts are going to be veteran players. Many of them, however, are going to be the slew of undrafted free agents the Chiefs signed after the 2013 NFL Draft in April. The dream dies for most of those players tonight.
Every year there is an undrafted free agent or lower-end roster player who defies the odds and makes it. Who will it be for the Chiefs this year? My three options below.
WR Rico Richardson
Rico Richardson was the first undrafted free agent to stand out at camp. His game-winning touchdown catch against the Pittsburgh Steelers put him on the map for Chiefs Nation but he was already having a good offseason before that.
DE Marcus Dixon
He's been in the league for a few years so he's not a rookie. But he's still a roster bubble player. Adam Teicher has him making the final 53-man roster. Nick Jacobs does not. The play I remember most from him was blowing through the line in the the first preseason game and making a backfield tackle.
S Bradley McDougald
His snap counts have been all over the place, but he's stood out at times. There are several players ahead of him at safety but no one who has clearly taken the reins at that spot. He has a shot.
Who's your pick to make it?
