Tuesday's NFL roster cut deadline wasn't the big one. Teams had to go from 90 to 75 players on the roster by Tuesday afternoon. But the really, really big roster cut down will come on Saturday. That's when teams need to be down to 53 players.
Not only will the Chiefs be cutting more players than the first round of cuts on Tuesday, some of the names will be bigger. I'm sure we will see a surprise or two (or three). I had a list of 40 players that were probably going to make the team, but a surprise cut is probably going to be on that list.
Here's what the Chiefs schedule looks like the rest of the week:
Wednesday: Chiefs off day the day before the game.
Thursday: Chiefs play Packers. We'll start to read into who did and didn't play.
Friday: Chiefs will probably begin their cuts on this day. At least some of them. They made most of their cuts a little early in the first round of moves so I wouldn't be surprised to see the cuts start coming in on Friday.
Saturday: 5 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) deadline to be down to 53 players. The previous Chiefs regime wouldn't release this 53-man roster until right at the deadline so it made the wait painful. I'm hoping the Chiefs will get them in earlier this time around.
Sunday: By 11 a.m. (Arrowhead Time) we'll know if the Chiefs claimed anyone on waivers cut the day before. Also at that time: Practice squads!
Tuesday: Players can be placed on IR with the designated to return label.
From there it's ... Jacksonville!
