Chiefs roster cuts 2013: Ricky Stanzi is gone, Terrance Copper a mild surprise, one draft pick down and more

Donald Miralle

If you're a Kansas City Chiefs fan who has been paying attention during training camp -- if you're reading AP, there's a good chance you have been -- then you know that none of the 14 roster cuts made on Sunday night were a big surprise. Ricky Stanzi is the biggest name and Terrance Copper is a mild surprise. Outside of that ... the Chiefs first round of cuts didn't include any stunners. Read on for some analysis of the Chiefs first round of cuts. Find all the Chiefs cuts right here.

Stanzi time is over

Officially. This is the headliner of the group. It's also one of the most obvious one.

Stanzi has been the fourth quarterback on all three depth charts that have been released. Tyler Bray has been the third quarterback and took snaps ahead of Stanzi all throughout camp.

This one was clear: Bray over Stanzi.

Terrance Copper a mild surprise

He was cut. Not a big surprise but he is a 10-year veteran. He was buried at receiver and the Chiefs have a number of young special teamers.

If he wasn't cut on the move down to 75, he would've been sweating the cut down to 53.

One draft pick goes down

The first draft pick is off the board: Braden Wilson.

He was the Chiefs sixth round pick. After the Javier Arenas for Anthony Sherman trade, we figured Sherman would win out. It was just a matter of whether they kept two fullbacks.

Sherman remains and so does Toben Opurum. Could he make it?

Is the o-line set?

Offensive linemen cut on Sunday night were Ryan Durand, Hutch Eckerson and AJ Hawkins.

I see it like this: Branden Albert, Donald Stephenson, Jon Asamoah, Rodney Hudson, Eric Kush, Jeff Allen, Geoff Schwartz, Eric Fisher.

That's eight, which is a normal number for the o-line.

Who had Neiko Thorpe making it?

Nick Jacobs had him making the roster in his mid-camp 53-man roster prediction. Instead he was cut.

I may not have put him on my 53-man roster but I figured he would've made it past the first round of cuts.

Vince Agnew can't shake that bad game

Cornerback Vince Agnew was torched in the Saints game for 11 receptions and two touchdowns. The Saints really picked on him all game and his struggles were one of the story lines coming out of that game.

For that reason, I'm not surprised he's included.

Buried on the depth chart

Jordan Roberts
Miguel Chavis
Rob Lohr
Kamaal McIlwain
Otha Foster III
Tyler Shoemaker
