The Kansas City Chiefs must be down to 75 players by Tuesday afternoon in the NFL's roster cuts but they have gotten started early. According to his agency, Del Duca Sports, Terrance Copper has been released.

A minor surprise if it's a surprise to you at all. He worked as a wide receiver but he made his mark in the league as a special teams ace. Dave Toub has the Chiefs special teams unit rolling at this point so perhaps they didn't need Copper and his 10-year veteran salary.

Copper was entering the final season of a three-year deal he signed back in July 2011.

He joined the Chiefs the year Todd Haley started back in 2009. He played for three head coaches in the last four years with the Chiefs. In 62 games, he had 38 receptions for 418 yards in Kansas City.

As a vested veteran, Copper becomes a free agent and available to sign with any team.

Reid spoke Sunday night about the upcoming cuts.

"That's a tough deal," Reid continued, "these guys have busted their tails at their profession. We wish them all the best of luck when they leave here that they have an opportunity to go place someplace else.

"You never know in this business, you could be coming right back. It's a crazy day."
