Maybe someone around here can explain something to me. Why is everyone around here a negative Nancy? Nothing is good enough. Everything is the wrong move. How about we give our brand new coaches, players and GM time to sort out previous regime’s problems? Lets be honest, there were quite a few.
1. The beginning and the end- "We’re 2-14 until proven otherwise"
This is such a lazy way of describing the Chiefs. As of now, everyone is 0-0. Some teams are arguably more talented than others based on previous seasons. But in the NFL, every team can win on any given Sunday (unless you're the raiders of course). We were a 2-14 team that got the first overall pick in the draft and had 6 pro bowlers. We have a completely different coaching staff. We have a new GM. Our owner hasn't been acting the same as the last however long he’s been in charge. We are a different team than last season. Period. Stop all the madness.
2. The elephant in the room- "Alex Smith isn't worth 2 second round picks"
Maybe, maybe not. First, that’s the price tag and we cant do anything about it. So deal with it and QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT. He’s our QB now. Please please PLEASE support him. I don’t want banners flying over arrowhead again this season because he isn't up to par with future hall of famers.
Smith’s stats have been overly stated here, so I wont bother finding them again. But at the end of the day, hes accurate and can lead a team. Immediately hes better than Cassel just because of that. He endured a crap few years in SF under a bad coaching staff with little to no talent around him. And was a learning QB. Here’s a fun fact: He and Rodgers were in the same draft. I know what you're thinking. "no kidding, idiot. We know that one." Well, consider this then. Rodgers had the luxury of learning behind a HOF QB for three seasons working with an elite staff and elite WR’s. Smith on the other hand? Not so much. Yet here he is getting better every single year. Let him play during the regular season for a bit in chiefs red before hammering him.
3. Something to keep in mind- "Its just preseason"
Did anyone think that maybe, just maybe, coaches have an agenda in the preseason? They know what the starters on the team can do and want to work with either new or 2nd string guys in specific plays? Reid has said multiple times we have to walk before we run (or something to that effect). Shut up and let the coaches figure out what to run in the preseason.
That being said, no one gameplans the first couple weeks in preseason. There's no reason to. You're evaluating lower sting guys on the simple, basic plays your offense will be running, so why gameplan?
At the end of the day, we’re all on the same team and, like it or not, we are in it together. So lets not be "those fans in KC." Lets be the best fans in the NFL.
