Rejoice! Jamaal Charles will be participating in the Kansas City Chiefs practice on Sunday, Andy Reid told a few of us on Saturday afternoon. Charles missed Friday's game against the 49ers with a foot strain and did not participate in the final two practices leading up to the game.
"He's gonna practice tomorrow and we'll just see how he does," Reid said. "See how it works out for him tomorrow. They all need to work so we'll see how he feels tomorrow."
We knew it wasn't serious but we were just waiting for the official word that he's back. Looks like that will come on Sunday.
It does not, however, mean that he will be playing next weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs third preseason game. Reid would not commit to him playing in that game. Pro Football Talk reported earlier that the Chiefs current plan with Charles is to sit him for the rest of the preseason, so we'll see.
Other injury updates following 49ers-Chiefs:
- Eric Fisher's shoulder injury is popping back up. He will not practice on Sunday. It appeared at one point during the game he was getting treatment on his hand, which has bothered him early in camp. Reid said this was a shoulder though.
- Dunta Robinson has a shoulder sprain. We don't know what the grade of it (1, 2, etc) so I can't predict how long he will be out. Reid said he would be OK but that he would not practice on Sunday. I suspect he could miss a little time depending on how serious it is given it's just preseason and Dunta is a veteran.
- Travis Kelce has a knee bruise, which will keep him from practicing on Sunday. He left Friday's game early.
- Sanders Commings continues to progress. He's been out for over three weeks and it's usually a 6-8 week injury.
