Is This Deja Vu? No, it's not.

Have you ever re watched a movie that you used to love years ago, but now you can't for the life of you remember or find what it was that you liked?

Maybe you started thinking that breaking up with your ex was a mistake, but after a week of hanging out with her/him again, you quickly remembered why this person is your ex.

For those who don't know me, I am a very optimistic person. I feel like you have a choice to be positive or be negative and I do my best to always choose to be positive. But I am human. Last year, I never thought that we would win 2 freaking games. I couldn't believe it. I thought we were alot better than we were. You know why?

The Preseason game against Arizona last year.

I remembered that game being great while the starters were playing. The offense scored on their first 2 drives and the Defense held it's own. Cassel went 5 for 6 and looked much better than in the past. Then we went 2-14.

Fast forward to the 1st preseason game of 2013. I read the posts and tweets before I was able to actually watch the game. I heard how sharp the team looked. While I was happy that everyone was saying what I wanted to hear, I must admit that I was a bit skeptical. We looked great last year and went 2 -14. Is this year any different?

This is exactly why I kept my recording of the Arizona game last year. So I went back and watched it so I could compare last years great preseason start to this years.

Is there a difference between Matt Cassel's one incompletion and Alex Smith's?

Absolutely. Matt actually would have had more than one incompletion, but one was nullified by a roughing the passer penalty. The incompletion that counted was awful. Cassel was turned to the right before he was ready and had a wide open JC shadowing him about 5 yards up the field. This should have been a nice gain, but Cassel threw an awful pass.

Alex Smith's incompletion on the other hand was because he intelligently threw the ball away. Alex was sharp....VERY sharp. When I am watching a QB for accuracy, I like to watch the receiver's body. How much effort did the receiver have to make to catch the ball? Did the ball hit him in the hands of did the receiver have to make some unnecessary adjustment? Was the receiver able to catch the ball in stride? If there is a small spot that the ball has to be in for there to even be an attempt at a catch, can the QB hit it? Alex Smith did all of that. He can "Throw a person open".

Cassel's completions were nothing like I remembered. He had some strikes, but none that I would call difficult. On Cassel's longest completion the Cards were in a horrible zone. Cassel did what he was supposed to do, but seriously, I could have made that throw. Don't get me wrong, Cassel had two very good drives. (Good enough to get him starting for the Vikes if he can do it again.) The bottom line is I believe Alex Smith could make every throw that Cassel made, but I don't think Cassel could have made all of the throws Alex made. For example, the quick slant from Smith to Fasano with a defender on his back for the first down (12;12 remaining in the first) is a throw I don't believe Cassel could make.

Then there was the Defense. Now the D is a little trickier to compare because our defense was very aggressive in that game last year. Who knew that it was a decoy that the Romeo and the crew were using to throw the rest of the league off. What we did in the Regular season looked NOTHING like what we did in that game. But I can say that our D this year seems to have the attitude that I have been wanting for years. Time will tell.

The biggest difference will likely be coaching and the front office. . We completely changed everything that we were doing from that Arizona game to the actual season last year. I am confident that Andy is going to show us some things that we haven't seen for a while if ever.

Either way, I am expecting this to be a great season!! So far we are as good or better in most every aspect of the game. Special teams is looking good, the D is angry, the coaching and play calling is better (so far), and The QB play is much better. The only question mark is WR. I personally think that they will be better since we have a better QB.

Time will tell, but I am drinking up!!! Hey, if I stay positive, one of these season's I will be right. And even if I am wrong, I still have this delicious Kool Aid.

What do you think after the first game?
