KC Chiefs rookies will make $925 per week during training camp, and other fun facts

Jamie Squire

The veterans make more than the rookies but NFL players are paid for their work in training camp. Of course, paid "a little bit" is relative.

The NFLPA sent out a memo to their player reps on Twitter earlier on Tuesday and it laid out a few interesting items on training camp rules, including the fact that players get paid for their time during camp.

Veterans will make $1,700 per week, which amounts to an $88,000 annual salary.

The rookies make less -- $925 per week, which comes out to roughly $48,000 per year.

That means these KC Chiefs players are more like the working man over these next few weeks. Of course, the difference between them and the working man is that their salary picks up in a big way in September.

Other fun facts about camp:

Pads can come on by the fourth day. The Chiefs first day is on Thursday, the moving day, which counts as a day. Friday and Saturday will be pad-less and then, if Andy Reid chooses (flashes back to Todd Haley's last camp), the pads can come out on Sunday.

There are mandatory days off. Players must have at least one day off every seven days, and at least five days for all of camp. The Chiefs hit that number with three days off (spaced out) and two travel days, which do not include practice.

HGH population study blood sample to be taken during camp. This is a first and it does not mean players are going to start getting busted for HGH right away. Read some of the background here, with quotes from Chiefs guard Geoff Schwartz.

We'll have a few more FYI type items over the next few days, before camp starts, including what to know when attending Chiefs camp in St. Joe, who to follow for training camp coverage and an overview of the 90-man roster.
