Chiefs training camp 2013: Andy Reid explains what to expect this week

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs rookies and quarterbacks reported to camp on Monday and will spend three days working out together before the veterans arrive on Thursday and camp officially begins on Friday. Andy Reid walks through what to expect in this pre-training camp period this week.

Who

"We have selective vets in," Reid said, in addition to the rookies. "That means quarterbacks are here. And then injured players, who were either injured last year or were not able to participate in our offseason program, so there are a few of those here.

Eric Fisher is the rookie who is not in attendance. The quarterbacks are Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, Ricky Stanzi and Tyler Bray. Among the injured players (who are now healthy) are Tony Moeaki, Donnie Avery and Shaun Draughn.

When

There are morning practices with the rookies, quarterbacks and injured players before the rest of the veterans arrive on Thursday.

"We'll meet [Monday night]," Andy Reid said on Monday, "and then we'll get them out there [Tuesday] on the field and have a short practice and then a walk through in the afternoon and meetings in between. So there will be meetings tonight and throughout tomorrow. We'll do that for three days."

What

Not a real practice! They won't be in pads during this time, just jerseys and shorts. This is similar to the set-up during OTAs.

But when the pads to come on, oh it's on, baby. "We're going to tackle to the ground," Reid said of this year's training camp. "It's going to be a physical camp. It's going to be a challenge for them."

Awesome. (For me. Not the players.)

Where

Of course it's at the Missouri Western State University campus. You can't just list the who, what and when without listing the where. (Forget why)

Other notes and quotes

"They'll get used to the heat and humidity," Reid said casually, not realizing the heat of Missouri in July can crush your soul.

"Most of it right now will be a review," Reid said of this pre-camp period. "As you go later in camp, you'll add a new thing here or there but mostly will be things they already covered."
